About Hollowmere Online

Hollowmere Online and Hollowmere are sold together: buy either one for $4.99 and you get both. Every Solar System also comes with Hollowmere Online free.

Hollowmere Online takes the Vale of Hollowmere and lifts it into third-person 3D. It is the same continent, generated from the same seed: the same 14 Lantern Shrines, 5 gates, 32 chests and 5 boss arenas, now with mountain walls, water, bog and lava, and the Great Bell's tower visible from everywhere.

And you are no longer alone. Other Unlit walk the roads between lanterns, fight what they meet, leave messages on the ground and come when you call for help at a shrine. Play online with real players on a realm server, or offline in a realm kept alive by computer-controlled wanderers.

In depth

How it works

The systems that make Hollowmere Online what it is.

Two ways to play

Offline Realm starts instantly. The realm runs on your console, kept company by wanderers: computer-controlled Unlit who travel, fight, rest, wave, chat, leave ground messages, rate yours and join your party when you call. They are always labelled Wanderer, so you know who's real.

Online Realm connects to a realm server and puts you in the Vale with everyone else on it. Your character lives on the server. Each realm keeps its own characters.

Souls combat, in three dimensions

All of Hollowmere's combat comes across with its numbers intact: stamina on every swing, rolls with invincibility frames, light and heavy attacks, backstabs, lock-on, poise breaks and criticals on bosses, knockdowns, grabs and five status effects. Crimson Flasks heal and Azure Flasks restore stamina.

All ten melee weapons, five ranged weapons and fourteen ammo types are here, with their specials: the spear's lunge, the warhammer's shockwave, the longbow's charged shot, the hand cannon's recoil, blast bolts and scatter shot. The six enemy types keep their tells, and rare Bellcursed elites roam the Vale.

Boss fights together

The five bosses are back with both phases each: the Hollow Shepherd, Mother Rot, the Pale Warden, the Cinder Wyrm and Saint Orren. A fog wall seals you in with everyone who walks through it.

The boss grows tougher for each extra fighter, and everyone in the fight gets the Sigil and the Embers. Sigils open the gates between regions, just as they do in Hollowmere.

Firstlight Camp

Every Unlit starts at Firstlight Camp, where three people need you:

  • Maud, the Last Lamplighter gives the ten story quests and the Lamplighter side quest, which unlock cloaks.
  • Corvin the Tallow-Seller sells ammunition and extra flasks, and reinforces weapons up to +5, each level adding 10% damage.
  • Sister Ilse of the Bell hands out bounties.

Together in the Vale

  • Parties of four share kill credit nearby, with party frames and map markers.
  • Ground messages are built from templates and left for others to find. When someone rates yours, you earn Embers.
  • Bloodstains show where other Unlit fell.
  • World events: the bell trembles and a Hollow Tide rises near you. Fight off two waves and a Bellcursed elite, and everyone who fought is rewarded.
  • Chat with a word filter, emotes, and a look you can change at any time.

Host your own realm

A realm server runs on any machine with Node.js 18 or newer, including a Solar System console. Start it, share the address it prints, and your friends can join. You choose how many wanderers keep the realm company, from none upwards.

The server simulates the realm 20 times a second and sends each player only what's near them, so it stays light. Players who step out to the dashboard stay in the realm, and enemies leave them alone until they're back.
